A new start

December has come and gone and as for how December’s go, this past one was awesome. Plenty of days in the 40’s made winter fishing very comfortable and productive. Next up for us is our hosted trip to the White River which is coming up later this month. Big streamers and big browns is a great way to start the new year. Bookings have started coming in for the 2020 season. As in years past don’t wait spring dates go extremely fast.

Fall transition

With the temps dropping, both air and water the fish are on the move to their wintering holes. Slow deep presentations have been key factors in successful days on the water. The river is in great shape and I will continue to run smallmouth trips as long as the water temps allow.

Fall is in the air

The fall feed has begun. Smallmouth are on the prowl starting to fatten up for the winter. As the temps drop fishing will continue to heat up. It's also time to break out the 2 handed rods, dust off the spey cast and start thinking about early winter steelhead.

Done and over

That's a wrap Alaska 2019 is in the books for me. As I said in a earlier post salmon fishing was tough, day to day. It stayed that way all season. However the rainbow, char, and grayling fishing on all of our flyout destinations was truly amazing. Just to throw out a number, yesterday Friday September 13 four anglers caught just shy of 300 char in a 5 hour period. I am planning on coming back to the Naknek for 2020 be in the lookout for dates and special pricing. I'm back on the local waters starting this week. From what captain Katz tells me the waters are low clear and the fish are skiddish.

Almost time to head home

My 2019 Alaskan season is just about over, I'm counting the days until I'm back on the sticks chasing smallmouth. If I had one word to describe Alaska this year it would be rainbows, the flyout locations we go to have been chalk full of big plentiful rainbows.

Home away from home

Week one in Alaska is in the books. As in years past the Naknek is a amazing place. We're are filling the days catching plenty of trout and Chum salmon as we wait for the run of silvers to start. Flyout destinations have been on fire. If you're into bears, there's plenty of them around this year.
