Quick update
The Kankakee is fishing decent through the state park. The water is dirty, visibility isn't great, top water is hit or miss. Other sections of the river are defiantly fishing better. It's nice that you have options when you book with me. The Dupage is super low and clear, grass has become a issue. I am totally booked until mid September for full day trips. If you want to do a after work special or a night trip I still have those available. Summer is going quick don't wait to long.

The week of evenings
It's been a week of late nights, putting the boat back on the trailer as the suns going down. The afterwork specials that I offer have been popular this week. There's nothing like finishing a day at the office and then catching smallies on top water flies. Summer is flying by.

Summer pattern
Things have settled into the normal summer patter this week. The fish have been looking up and the top water game has been great. The rains have messed things up for a coupe days but it will drop and clear quick once again.

Getting back to normal
Finally, things are getting back to normal. The Dupage river has been fishing great this week. The water is crystal clear, the weed growth has started but isn't a problem yet, and the fish are eating if you play the game correctly. The fish are VERY spooky because of the clear water. If you're wading walk quite on the bank, if you're in a boat don't rock it. The fish will feel you coming before you even get close to them. Best bite has been top water or crayfish patterns. The Kankakee is dropping and the water clarity is improving. Best bite has been a tough question, keep trying flies and don't give up is the best advice that I can give you.

Day off playing catch up
Up's and downs. The rains come down and the rivers goes up. This spring is still continuing to be a challenging one. The rivers are all fishable but still on the high side. Water clarity is 16" max. Bigger flies with rattles in them have been the patterns of choice. All rivers are in post spawn mode and producing good quality fish every trip out. I had the opertuinty to be interviewed for a pod cast when I talk about our local fisheries, http://guidedlines.com/featured-guides/episode-004-captain-austin-adduci/

Mid week update
With the Kankakee STILL blown out I've moved my trips west to the Dupage River and it's been paying off. Fish have been keyed in on baitfish patterns despite catching a few big bass with crayfish in its gullet. Time to hit the river.

End of the week
The end of the week finished solid. The water levels dropped the clarity was good and the temps were in the mid 60's. The fish were acting normal for a change. Have a great weekend.

The spring grind
Wow, the spawn is early this year. That means the spring time grind is on. Now before anybody goes and gets all upset about me running trips while the smallmouth are spawning let me nip this in the bud. When my boat fishes the river I DO NOT anchor and fish spots, my boat is constantly drifting down river. There for I am not bed robbing. The fish that eat during the spawn are eating streamers or crank baits, which means they are chasing food mid water column and want to eat. A fish on beds isn't coming up for food. We're about a week into the grind so historically we have a week to go. Keep a positive attitude and keep casting.

Mother Nature
Spring showers have arrived and the rivers are paying the price. Hopefully by the end of this week, area wide the rivers will be fishable again. The big lake too is paying the price for the storms. The water is dirty and the fish are spread out. The lake carp game is strong and will get better as the the water clears. The only bright light that I can see is the river fish will be hungry when the boat floats again this weekend.
